Employers Sued Over Background Checks – Publix Settled Claims that It Violated the FCRA for $6.8 Million

January 16, 2015 – According to Fortune, some employers are not compliant when it comes to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”) and employee background checks. As a result, several well-known companies are finding themselves on the wrong end of a lawsuit. The list includes chain retailers and restaurants such as Whole Foods, Dollar General, Panera, Michaels Stores, Publix Super Markets, Chuck E. Cheese, and Century 21 Department Stores. Even Paramount Pictures has been sued for violations pertaining to the FCRA.

Strip Club to Pay Dancers $6 Million For Violations of Wage and Hour Laws

Hallandale Beach, Florida, July 2, 2015 – As per the Miami Herald, Scarlett’s Caberet, a chain of strip clubs, one each located in Hallandale Beach and Ybor City, both in Florida, and one in Toledo, Ohio, have agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit for $6 million. U.S. District Judge William P. Dimitrouleas, of the Southern District of Florida, preliminarily approved the settlement on June 29, 2015. After preliminarily approving the settlement, the judge set a fairness hearing for Oct. 22, 2015, in Fort Lauderdale.
