Overtime Compensation- This new law comes from “the Department of Labor’s decision to amend the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).” The new expected pay standards are as follows: If you are making less than $50,400 a year, or $970 a week, you will be awarded overtime pay for any hours worked over 40.
Updated Minimum Wage for Federal Contractors: The release of this new minimum wage was made by the US Secretary of Labor. As of January 1, 2016, all federal contractors are to be paid $10.15 an hour, which is a $0.05 increase from last years proposed wage.
Pregnancy Workers Fairness Act (PWFA)- The PWFA, which is in the works of being approved, is going to establish rights to help protect expecting mothers in the workplace. Pregnancy sometimes does not always go as planned, and many accommodations and designated time off should be understood by an employer and not regarded as a means of letting someone go.
With these new laws coming into effect, or already have taken effect, workers of any company deserve the appropriate treatment as the hard-working people that they are.
